Prize Draw Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction 

These are the terms and conditions (“Conditions”) that apply to the monthly Glasgow Credit Union Prize Draw (“the prize draw”).


2. Prize Draw Promoter and Facilitator

The prize draw is operated and promoted by Glasgow Credit Union Limited (“the Promoter”), whose registered address is 95 Morrison Street, Glasgow G5 8BE.

StarVale Management & Technologies Ltd (“the Facilitator”) is appointed on behalf of the Promoter to facilitate the monthly draw.  

3. Accepting these Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions should be read in conjunction with our Membership Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice which apply to general membership of Glasgow Credit Union and the use of our digital services including our Mobile App. 

Any decisions that we make as Promoter in accordance with the Conditions shall, once made, be final and binding.

By taking part in the prize draw, you agree to be bound by the latest version of these Conditions, which can be found on our website: glasgowcu.com/help

These Conditions can be amended at any time and will be updated on our website accordingly. If they are amended after you are already entered into a draw, the revised conditions will be applicable from the next prize draw date and any subsequent prize draws, unless and until further amended.

4. Eligibility

To be eligible for the prize draw, you must:

a) Meet the ongoing conditions of membership as defined in the Glasgow Credit Union Membership Terms and Conditions.
b) Be aged 18 or over.
c) Not be in arrears or in any formal or informal debt arrangement relating to any Glasgow Credit Union loan or mortgage.
d) Have an active savings contribution to your Glasgow Credit Union Membership Savings Account by Direct Debit or Salary Contribution with a minimum value of £10 in addition to any non-savings commitments (including any prize draw subscription).
e) Have a savings balance in your Membership Savings Account greater than or equal to the sum of any monthly loan, mortgage and prize draw subscription payments plus £1 at the closing date of each prize draw period.
f) Reside within Great Britain. If your main residence is in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or anywhere else outside Great Britain, you are not eligible to enter the prize draw.

Members who leave Glasgow Credit Union can no longer participate in the prize draw.

Employees or Directors of Glasgow Credit Union or employees of its contractors and partners, any prize providers, or anyone connected with the operation of the prize draw, including the Facilitator, cannot enter the prize draw.

By submitting a prize draw entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Conditions, and you confirm that you are eligible to enter the prize draw and are eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the prize draw.

Glasgow Credit Union reserves the right to disqualify entrants from the prize draw where any entries breach these Conditions, are in any way fraudulent or (in Glasgow Credit Union’s reasonable opinion) will bring us or the entrants into disrepute.

5. Entry Instructions

There are two methods of entry available:

Free entry route: 

No purchase is necessary. There is no obligation to make a payment to be eligible for entry and all eligible Glasgow Credit Union members can have a maximum of ten free postal entries into the prize draw each month.

For each free postal entry you must send your member number, full legal name, home address, city, postcode, phone number (optional), email address and the full name of the prize draw you wish to enter (e.g. “The December Glasgow Credit Union Prize Draw”) to Glasgow Credit Union Prize Draw, PO Box 365, Lancaster LA2 0XB. 

The personal details submitted on each free postal entry will not be valid unless they match the details held by Glasgow Credit Union. If you have changed your name, home address or any other personal information, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have notified Glasgow Credit Union in advance of submitting a free postal entry.

No mechanically reproduced free postal entries are permitted.

Entries via the Free Entry Route will usually be processed within five (5) business days after we receive them. Postal entries received after the closing date will be entered into the next available monthly draw.

No confirmation of receipt of a free postal entry can be given by Glasgow Credit Union.

Paid monthly entry subscription: 

You can subscribe for entries in each monthly draw. Monthly entry subscription payments will be taken in advance of each monthly draw from your Membership Savings Account.

All eligible members can subscribe for entries into monthly prize draws via the Glasgow Credit Union mobile app or by calling 0141 274 9933.

You must be resident in Great Britain at the point you subscribe to the prize draw. If you are resident in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or anywhere else outside Great Britain, you are not eligible to enter the prize draw.

Entry subscriptions will continue to be included in each monthly prize draw until cancelled by you either via the mobile app or by calling us on 0141 274 9933. Cancellation requests or amendments to your prize draw subscription must be made before the closing date for the next monthly prize draw.

Glasgow Credit Union may cancel your entry subscriptions where you are no longer eligible to take part in the prize draw.

Where there are insufficient funds, or your fail to meet the eligibility criteria for any monthly prize draw at the closing date of that prize draw, Glasgow Credit Union will remove your entry from that draw and will not take that month’s entry subscription. You will remain subscribed for further entries unless your entry subscription is cancelled by you or us.

6. How the Prize Draw is run

The closing date for each monthly draw is 23:59 on the last Wednesday of each month.

The Facilitator will conduct the prize draw on behalf of the Promoter on the last Friday of every month. If the last Friday of the month falls on a Bank Holiday, the draw will take place on the next working day. 

Entry subscription payments will be taken from your Membership Savings Account immediately after the closing date of each monthly draw. 

The draw will be made utilising a random number generator which has been tested and approved by an independent, Gambling Commission approved, third-party test house.  All eligible entries have an equal chance of winning.

All proceeds from the prize draw go to Glasgow Credit Union and will distributed as described in Condition 8. 

The Promoter may reject any prize draw application without giving a reason at its absolute discretion. No detail in the application may be changed in any way once it has been submitted.

Glasgow Credit Union reserve the right to cancel a prize draw at any stage, if deemed necessary in their opinion, because of legal or regulatory issues, a systems failure or if circumstances arise outside their reasonable control. If this happens, we’ll put a notice on our website (glasgowcu.com) as soon as we practically can.  If the prize draw is cancelled after the closing date, any subscription payments that have been collected for that draw will be refunded to your Membership Savings Account.  Postal entries will be rolled forwards into the next available monthly draw.   

Glasgow Credit Union may temporarily suspend or bring the monthly prize draw to a complete end, at their sole discretion.  Details of any suspension or termination will be posted on our website: glasgowcu.com. Monthly subscription payments will be suspended or terminated as appropriate.

7. The Prize

There are multiple prizes to be won.

The prizes for each draw are advertised on our website: glasgowcu.com

Entrants will be notified of any changes in the prize structure via the website.

Where a cash prize is offered, this will be in pound sterling. No alternatives will be offered and no interest is payable. Prizes will be paid into the winners’ Membership Savings Account within 7 working days of the draw.

Where non-cash prizes are offered in any monthly draw, Glasgow Credit Union reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond its control makes it necessary to do so. Accordingly, the descriptions of the prize are provided without a guarantee of any kind. Glasgow Credit Union, its contractors (including the Facilitator) and/or any prize provider shall not be liable for any claim, demand or damages caused to an entrant by reason of a description of the prize being inaccurate, incomplete, or for the prize being otherwise in any way different to the entrant’s expectations.

Prize winners will be contacted either by the Promotor or Facilitator by email using the email address held by Glasgow Credit Union. We will also contact the First Prize winner by telephone.

Glasgow Credit Union’s decision as to who is the winner in each prize draw is final. No correspondence relating to the prize draw will be entered into.

The Promoter will either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid prize draw took place. To comply with this obligation the Promoter reserves the right to use the winner’s name for promotional purposes. These will be only in summary, for example "Mr Smith from Glasgow". 

If you object to your name being published or made available, please contact Glasgow Credit Union within one working day of being advised of your win. In such circumstances, Glasgow Credit Union must still provide the information to the Advertising Standards Authority or any of its regulators or auditors on request.

The Promotor may also ask to use winners’ stories and/or photographs for publication on the Glasgow Credit Union website, mobile app, social media channels or any other credit union publication.

8. Refunds/returns/cancellation 

Refunds of prize draw subscriptions will not be made for cancellations received after the closing date of each monthly prize draw. 

The Promoter is not responsible for any delay in contributions to your Membership Savings Account which may affect prize draw entry eligibility.

No liability is accepted for the loss, theft, or delayed receipt of any communication.

The Promoter may (without giving any reason or notice) decline to accept an application, cancel an existing subscription, or terminate or suspend the prize draw.

All members who choose to leave the Credit Union will be withdrawn from the prize draw at date of leaving. If you leave after the closing date for a prize draw and have made that monthly subscription, you will still be included in that month’s draw.

9. Proceeds from the Prize Draw

Glasgow Credit Union is responsible for the payment of prizes.

All proceeds from the prize draw go to Glasgow Credit Union and will be used for the promotion and development of the credit union including but not limited to financial education and wellbeing activities for members and stakeholders, and research and development for products and services that provide benefit for our members and stakeholders.

10. Personal Information

You agree that by entering the prize draw, the Promoter and the Facilitator may process your personal information in accordance with Glasgow Credit Union’s Privacy Notice.

11. Governing Law

These Conditions are governed by the Scots law. This means that your participation in any prize draws and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection therewith (including non-contractual disputes or claims), will be governed by Scots law.

12. Liability

No liability is accepted by the Promoter for:

a) Any loss or damage, including the right to receive a prize, suffered by any participant if they have not complied with these Conditions or any relevant participation instructions.
b) The loss, theft or delayed receipt of any communication or entry, or which is damaged or illegible, from which the participant or winner cannot be identified or which has insufficient postage (proof of posting is not proof of receipt).
c) Glasgow Credit Union’s failure or inability to contact a participant and/or award any prize due to any errors omissions or inaccuracies in the contact details provided or a participant’s failure to update these if they change.
d) Loss or damage incurred by any participant in connection with their participation in the prize draw or their use of any prize including but not limited to direct, indirect and/or consequential loss) or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with the prize or any part of it.
e) Any interruptions or errors on or to the Glasgow Credit Union mobile app, website, technical hardware or software errors, or failures or lost, faulty or unavailable network connections.
f) Any failure or delay beyond Glasgow Credit Union's reasonable control.

Glasgow Credit Union is not liable in contract, tort (including but not limited to negligence) or otherwise in connection with the prize draw for loss of revenue, contract, profits, anticipated savings or loss of data, any special or indirect or consequential losses or any loss of goodwill or reputation. Nothing in these Conditions shall limit Glasgow Credit Union's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraud or for any other matter for which liability may not be limited by law.

All warranties, conditions or guarantees relating to the prize draw made by or on behalf of Glasgow Credit Union whether express or implied by law, in the course of dealings or otherwise, are excluded to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Glasgow Credit Unions liability to any participant shall be limited to the amount of any prize which have become due to that participant.

You can also call us on 0141 274 9933 or by writing to Glasgow Credit Union, 95 Morrison Street, Glasgow, G5 8BE with any queries or complaints. We'll confirm who will be dealing with your complaint. If we can’t resolve things immediately, we’ll let you know what the next steps are.

14. Important Information

Glasgow Credit Union is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority. Our Firm Reference Number is 213558.

Glasgow Credit Union is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). Whilst your savings deposits are protected under FSCS scheme rules, the prize draw is not covered by the scheme and any entry subscription payments will not be protected once the payment has been taken from your Member Savings Account. Additionally, any prize monies owed to winners is not protected by the FSCS scheme until these funds are deposited into the winner’s Member Savings Account. 

We make our mobile app available for download via the Apple App store and Google Play store and whilst you can choose to use the mobile app to subscribe for entries into our prize draw, neither Google nor Apple are involved in our prize draws in any way.
